Show off your stuff at Home, Food & Family in WW1!

On 20, Jan 2016 | In Events | By Nicola Gauld

Join us on Saturday 5 March 2016 at Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings for a series of lectures and fascinating displays about Food and Family Life on the rural Home Front during World War One.

We would love to hear from you if you want to bring along a display or present a lecture about your WW1 community heritage research, particularly if it relates to life, food and family on the Home Front. Please contact Professor Maggie Andrews by 30 January 2016 with either an abstract of 300 words for a paper or indicate the title and space requirements for an exhibition.

Watch this space for details of how to book a place on the day…

The Dig for Victory campaigns of the Second World War have a firm place within popular consciousness – yet similar activities in WW1 when food also became a weapon of war have received little attention.

We aim to bring academics, teachers, students and those working or and volunteering in community group and the heritage industries  together to share their ideas, interests and research.  The programme of talks and papers will be complemented by displays and exhibitions from community history groups.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Professor Karen Hunt – University of Keele
  • Dr Stella Hockenhull – University of Wolverhampton

DATE: Saturday 5 March 2016

VENUE: Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings, Stoke Heath, Bromsgrove, Midlands B60 4JR.

ORGANISED BY: Women’s History Network (Midlands Region) and the Voices of War and Peace WWI Engagement Centre

With funding support from:

Economic History Society, Voices of War & Peace WW1 Engagement Centre
