Historical Re-enactment: The Assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand
This historical dramatisation of the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the outbreak of the Great War will take place in Kings Heath Village Square, with the performance starting at 12pm. The performers are from Swanshurst School in Kings Heath and Moseley Muscular Dystrophy. The event will raise money for Muscular Dystrophy and in particular Abbi Bennett (@abbi1inamillion) who has Ullrich's Congenital MD.

Born in Gloucestershire in 1888, F.W. Harvey became one of England’s most popular war poets, writing much of his work during the Great War. To mark the centenary of the start of World War 1, the Everyman Theatre presents a brand new adaptation of Harvey’s unpublished novel “Will Harvey’s War”. Public Art: Minimum Monument
For the first time in Great Britain, Brazilian artist Néle Azevedo creates a breath-taking display of over 5,000 figures made out of ice. Place one of the beautifully crafted ice sculptures on the steps of Chamberlain Square and be mesmerised as the sea of ice figures melt. Minimum Monument is part of the City’s celebrations commemorating the centenary of World War One. In 2009 Sam Sweeney, fiddle player with Bellowhead, bought a violin in Oxford. It had all the appearance of a new instrument but the label inside gave the date 1915 and the name Richard S Howard. Research revealed that the violin had been made – but never finished – by a luthier and some-time music hall performer from Leeds called Richard Spencer Howard.
