OUR DEBT FOR VICTORY
The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, accompanied by members of the Corporation and City officials, attended the Parish Church in state yesterday morning. The Rev. Canon Willink in the course of his sermon said it would be many months before the developments of the last few days and hours, particularly those relating to the Kaiser’s abdication, would be placed in their right perspective. We owed the breaking of the snare which had been set for us to the wonderful spirit of service and sacrifice which had animated the Empire and our great Allies; to the splendid valour of our fighting men, and to God, who had inspired freedom-loving men to fight and endure through defeat and reverses to victory.
