PUBLIC-HOUSE SCENE

DISCHARGED SOLDIER FINED FOR ASSAULT

William Glover, aged 21, a discharged soldier, 67, Plume-street. Aston, was at Birmingham to-day charged with assault and wilful damage.

It was stated in evidence that on Saturday night Glover went to the Duke of Wellington, Wainwright-street Aston, and, on being refused a drink because of his behaviour, he picked up a glass of beer and, after throwing the contents in the landlord’s face, threw the glass also. The glass missed the landlord, but struck a mirror at the back of-the bar, knocking down 12 glasses from the shelves. William Tibbins, landlord’s son, went to put Glover out, and the latter, it was alleged, gave him a black eye.

Glover, who denied that he did anything but throw the beer, was fined 40s. and ordered to pay 5s. towards the damage.
