LADY MAYORESS’S LAND GANGS

At a meeting of the Birmingham Women’s War Agricultural Committee, held at the Council House, to-day, the Lady Mayoress, who presided, announced that, in conjunction with the Horticultural Section, she is arranging for groups of ladies and older schoolgirls to take over the cultivation vegetable gardens attached to vacant houses; also to give some assistance to owners of large gardens who cannot grow the vegetables they should owing to the shortage of labour. These groups are to be known as the Lady Mayoress’s Land Gang, and will work under a competent group leader.
