UNNECESSARY MEAT QUEUES IN BIRMINGHAM
NO ANXIETY WHATEVER FOR THE CHRISTMAS JOINT
The queue system in Birmingham extended to concern certain meat shops. The situation thus brought about was considered last night at a meeting of the Wholesale and Retail Meat trade, held at the City Meat Market. It was decided to inform the public that the supplies of meat were much more abundant than they were last week, and that no anxiety whatever need be felt that the Christmas joint will not be forthcoming owing to inadequate supplies. It was explained that the general situation is well under the notice of the officials of the Food Control Committee and the trade organisations.
The fear of possible shortage over Christmas seemed yesterday to be inducing some people to buy unusually large quantities of meat, but since there is nothing in the actual condition of the market to justify such buying the public are urgently requested not to resort to a proceeding so wasteful.
