HANDSWORTH GIRLS’ GRAMMAR SCHOOL
Speaking yesterday the distribution of prizes at King Edward’s Grammar School for Girls, Handsworth, the Head Mistress (Miss L. C. Brew) advised girls to take up teaching as a profession instead undertaking clerical duties, now presenting lucrative appeals, but which after the war might not be so satisfactory. The demand for women teachers was great, and would be greater. She also counselled girls to become interested in domestic duties, the knowledge of which would be of great value to them. She expressed thanks to Elaine Stagge for presenting a silver cup for competition in the domestic classes, and to Miss Hill (sports mistress) for presenting a shield for competition among the net-ball players. Mr. Siward James (bailiff) presented the prizes and trophies.
