MORE ALLOTMENTS WANTED IN BIRMINGHAM

Mr. W. H. Morter, superintendant of the Birmingham Parks, has just been appointed horticultural representative of the Food Production Department of the Board of Agricultures. Though his duties have not yet been defined specifically, they will include the acquisition of more land for allotments in the Birmingham district and the distribution of seed potatoes. By this means it is hoped to double the acreage under cultivation in allotments. There are at least 2,000 men desirous of obtaining plots, and, as a result of visits of inspection to be made by Mr. Morter, in company with Mr. Sutton, the representative of the Food Production Department now visiting the city, it is hoped that this demand will be met.
