THRIFT AND WAR SAVINGS IN BIRMINGHAM

WOMEN’S COMMITTEE FORMED

The Lady Mayoress presided at a meeting this afternoon at the Council House for the purpose of forming a Women’s War Savings Committee for Birmingham. Women had she said, done well during the war, but she felt they ought to take an active share in the movement. Everyone should be encouraged, in addition to saving money, to practise thrift and rigid economy in food, coal and clothing. She hoped a representative committee would be formed in Birmingham to organise a women’s branch for the sale of War Savings certificates. The assistance of women’s organisations of all kinds were sought.

Mrs. Tippett and Mrs. Ravenshaw, organiser from the National War Savings Committee, gave a further explanation of the movement. It was decided to form a women’s committee.
