Event: The Caribbean Contribution Within the British Armed Forces

On 14, Oct 2017 | In Events | By Nicola Gauld

National Memorial Arboretum, 28 October, 2.30pm

Discover more about the Caribbean military contribution and the role the community played rebuilding post-war Britain with Horace Barnes, Chairperson of the ‘Why Are West Indians Project’. It will feature veterans talking about their time in the British Military, as well as stories such as that of Walter Tull in World War I and Windrush Day of World War II.

The army of project volunteers made up of both civilian and military personnel work collectively on the front line and behind the scenes providing a bespoke community outreach programme at grassroots level. WAWI believe education is paramount to changing perceptions, and it is only by giving our children a history to be proud of that they will have a future to believe in.

By engaging with a cross section of communities WAWI provide audiences with a fresh and engaging exchange of dialogue; where learning and active participation is welcomed and encouraged.
