FALSE PRETENCES
TAMWORTH GIRL’S FRAUD IN BIRMINGHAM
Before Lord Ilkeston (Stipendiary) at the Birmingham Police Court today, Ethel Horton (18) Park Street, Tamworth; Grace Ward (22) and Blanche Ward (21), Lichfield Lane, Tamworth, were charged with obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, and also with stealing some wearing apparel.
On the 19th September the accused called at the house of Elizabeth Cox, 85, Great Brook Street, and asked for lodgings. She took them in and they remained there until the 3rd October, when they left. After they had gone some articles of clothing were missed.
Detective Robert Whittey said there were two other similar charges against prisoners. They owed Cox £4 10s. and a Mrs. Leek, of Sandy Lane, 50s. They stayed at the house of a Mrs. Marshall in Lupin Street a few days, and after they had gone some wearing appeal was missed.
Prisoners were sent to gaol for six weeks.
