PITCH AND TOSS ON THE CANAL SIDE

Twelve young men appeared before the magistrates sitting in the Third Birmingham Police Court charged with gambling. They were playing pitch and toss on the towing-path of the Birmingham and Wolverhampton Canal, Rotton Park Street, when they were suddenly interrupted by Police-constables Griffiths, Hickman, Underwood, and Morgan, who succeeded in arresting the whole gang. Fines varying from 20s. to 40s. were imposed, the fines amounting in the aggregate to £17 10s.

The Presiding Magistrate (Mr H. S. Yozall) complimented the officers on their capture.
