CHILD RESCUED FROM SPARKBROOK FIRE

An exciting scene was witnessed at Sparkbrook yesterday. It was noticed that the house of W. Norton, 17 Long Street, was on fire and it was known that a child was in the kitchen. The door was locked, and the neighbours were unsuccessful in their efforts to force an entrance. A milkman named George Castle, of Bristol Terrace, Bristol Street, smashed a window and, entering the house, found the kitchen on fire, Elsie Norton (six months) lying in a cot on a chair near the fire. The baby, who was slightly burned about the face and hands from the heat of the fire was removed to a place of safety.
