EXHIBITION GAME TO-NIGHT AT YE OLDE ROYAL.
The spare evenings between the semi-final and final of “Tommy’s” Billiard Handicap at Ye Olde Royal Hotel, Temple-row, Birmingham, are being filled with exhibition games by well known players, and this evening a good crowd is expected to witness the match between M. J. Vaughan, of Coventry, and Will Taylor, of Wednesbury. The points will be 600 up level, and play will commence at 7.30p.m.
Last evening A. Thornley and C. H. Godwin played 500 up level at Ye Olde Royal Hotel for a prize. Thornley took a good lead early on, and at one period the game was 110 ahead. The final margin in favour of Thornley was 64 points. The winner made breaks 24, 30, 25, and 29, the loser’s best being 33 and 22.
At the Crown Hotel, Corporation-street, last evening, Mr. W. J. Hill conceded Mr. A. Montague 50 points in 500 up and beat him by 26 points. Hill’s best efforts were 27, 25 (twice), 22, 24, 30 and 34, whilst the loser made breaks of 27 (twice) and 21.
At each game collections in aid of the “Birmingham Gazette” and “Evening Despatch” Soldiers’ Comforts Fund were made.
