SOLDIER’S SUICIDE IN BIRMINGHAM

The Birmingham Coroner (Mr. I. Bradley) held an enquiry at the Victoria Courts this afternoon concerning the death of Joseph Lyndon (45), a private in the 3/5th Royal Warwickshire Regiment, who was found hanging at 5, Smithfield Buildings, Allison Street, on Tuesday last. Lyndon had been spending a few day’s leave from camp with relatives, and should have returned on Monday evening. He said he should defer his departure until Tuesday, and on that morning he was left alone in the house cleaning his buttons. Later he was found suspended by a linen line.
During his stay in Birmingham, it was stated, Lyndon had been quite cheerful. Three or four years ago, on the death of his wife, he attempted to take his life.
A verdict of “Suicide whilst temporarily insane” was returned.
