BIRMINGHAM TRIBUNAL

An application for total exemption was made at the Birmingham Tribunal this afternoon by an employer on behalf of one of his branch shop managers. He pointed out that most of his employers had enlisted, and that if this manager were not exempted he would have to close down the shop. As a fruit, fish, rabbit and poultry salesmen he served three munitions canteens. The work could not be done by girls.
Temporary exemption for one month only was granted, the Chairman pointing out that munitions canteens could easily spare someone to fetch goods.

RATHER BE IN THE ARMY THAN MARRIED.

An applicant asked for postponement for two months on domestic grounds.
The Chairman: Are you thinking of getting married?
Applicant: No. I would rather be in the army than married. (Laughter)
One month’s postponement was granted.
