Video Captures Leintwardine HLF Project

On 02, Dec 2014 | In Events, Exhibitions, WW1 Projects | By Voices

Well over a thousand people attended the Leintwardine exhibition and events over four days in October. This video features the Shropshire Radio interview with Nerissa Wilson of the Leintwardine History Society, who describes visitors’ reactions to the exhibition.

The events of 16-19 October saw the culmination of this First World War commemorative project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, ‘The impact of the First World War on Leintwardine and neighbouring villages’.

Residents from Leintwardine and the local history society have worked together to produce a series of events and activities. At the centre of the project are the exhibitions ‘Last orders: families on the brink of war’ and ‘Tell them back home’. The exhibitions include a section on the VAD hospital, which demonstrates how early the village was anticipating a need for medical care. Other sections of the exhibition focus on the hospital’s links to Minnesota and Lincolnshire. The wartime experience of three local brothers, the village newspaper, and the village situation following the end of the war are also explored.
