Shot at Dawn project appeal

A particularly emotional part of the First World War, and one that can still cause fierce debate, is the execution of soldiers for offences such as “cowardice” and desertion. Lest We Forget – Shot at Dawn is a project run by the Central Youth Theatre of Wolverhampton that explores the stories of some of these soldiers.

As well as researching the executed soldiers we wish to find out about the effects of the executions on families back home and also on those soldiers who were made to join the firing squads.

We are interested in hearing from anyone who has knowledge of this subject or may even have stories to tell from within their own families.

Shot at Dawn is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project will culminate in an exhibition and short film.

If you have any information or a story to tell please contact Laura Sambrooks: laurasamb@blueyonder.co.uk
